Organic September is an initiative organized by the Soil Association Certification

This week marks the final week of Organic September, here at Greens Solicitors we like to do our bit to give back and this month we thought one of the best ways to do this is by spreading awareness and getting involved with the Organic September initiative – a month-long campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the numerous benefits of organic food and farming practices, which include: Supporting biodiversity and wildlife, helping to fight against climate change, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare and the reduced exposure to pesticides used in corporate agriculture.

What is Organic September?

Organic September is an initiative organized by the Soil Association Certification, a leading authority on organic food and farming in the UK. The campaign aims to educate consumers, businesses, and policymakers about the positive impact of organic agriculture on our health, environment, and society.

The Benefits of Organic Food and Farming

Supporting Biodiversity and Wildlife

Organic farming practices prioritize the preservation of biodiversity and wildlife. By avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, organic farmers create a more balanced ecosystem that promotes the health and well-being of various plant and animal species.

Combating Climate Change

Organic agriculture plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change. Organic farms use sustainable practices such as crop rotation, composting, and natural pest control methods. These methods help sequester carbon in the soil, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and promote long-term soil health.

Ensuring High Standards of Animal Welfare

One of the core principles of organic farming is ensuring high standards of animal welfare. Organic livestock is raised in free-range environments with access to outdoor spaces. They are fed organic feed without the use of growth hormones or routine antibiotics.

Reducing Exposure to Pesticides

Choosing organic food reduces our exposure to harmful pesticides commonly used in conventional agriculture. Organic farmers rely on natural pest control methods, crop rotation, and companion planting to manage pests without resorting to synthetic chemicals.

How Can You Participate?

There are several ways you can get involved in Organic September:
