Having a dog as a pet has been known to boost mental health, make people happier and feel more optimistic. They are also a great way to ensure that you are getting regular exercise which is another way of improving your mental health and overall fitness.

Over the lockdown period there was a significant increase in the amount of people that either purchased or adopted dogs. This is because of the unconditional love and affection that they show to their owners and that they are great companions to have around the house.

Dogs have their own subtle ways of showing you how much they mean to you. For example, dogs cannot physically pet you, however when they place their paw on you, or rest their head on you, this is their way of petting you and comforting you. Not only that, they are also capable of picking up on your mood but they are also able to find ways to make your day to day life even happier.

They are also one of the few animals on the planets that are able to assist humans in the working environment, for example in the police and service dogs who help people who have various disabilities.

So for those of you that have dogs at home, this is the month to show them how much they mean to you!
