Child Safety Week 2026: Making Prevention Possible

Child Safety Week 2026 runs from the 1st to 7th June. It is the Child Accident Prevention Trust’s annual community education campaign, designed to spark conversations about child safety across the UK. The week provides an important opportunity to reflect on how we can all play a role in protecting children and promoting their wellbeing. As family solicitors, we see first-hand the importance of creating safe, stable and supportive environments that allow children to thrive.

This year’s theme is ‘Making Prevention Possible’, highlighting the importance of taking proactive steps to identify risks early and create safer environments for children before harm occurs. The theme focuses on building parents’ and carers’ confidence and capacity to create safe spaces where children can learn, play and grow.

Unfortunately, children can be exposed to a wide range of potential hazards in everyday life, which is why preventative measures are so important. For example, blind cords can be fatal if they become wrapped around a young child’s neck. Small button batteries can cause serious injuries if swallowed. Even a family dog, however trusted, may bite and injure a child unexpectedly. Many accidents occur in and around the home, making awareness and prevention key to keeping children safe.

It is important for parents, carers, teachers and professionals to understand the risks children may face and the practical steps that can be taken to reduce them. By recognising potential dangers early and taking simple preventative measures, many accidents can be avoided.

There are a range of resources available online to support families and professionals. The Child Accident Prevention Trust, which runs Child Safety Week, is an excellent place to start and provides practical guidance, advice and educational materials to help make prevention possible.
