Air Ambulance Week 2026: Every Mission Starts With You

From 7 to 13 September 2026, Air Ambulance Week shines a spotlight on one of the UK’s most vital emergency services: our air ambulance charities. This year’s theme, “Every Mission Starts With You,” is a powerful reminder that behind every lifesaving mission is a community of supporters making it possible. 

Across the UK, air ambulance crews respond to more than 50,000 emergency missions every year, providing advanced critical care when and where it is needed most. Whether attending serious road traffic collisions, cardiac emergencies, workplace incidents, or medical crises in remote locations, these highly skilled teams treat patients in their most critical moments. 

What many people don’t realise though, is that air ambulance charities receive no day-to-day government funding for their charitable operations and rely heavily on public donations, fundraising efforts, volunteers, and corporate support to remain operational. Every flight, every piece of specialist equipment, and every lifesaving intervention is made possible through the generosity of individuals and organisations across the country.  

The statistics are remarkable. Air ambulance teams collectively attend an average of 137 lifesaving missions every day, often reaching patients within minutes and delivering critical care that can mean the difference between life and death. They are staffed by highly trained pilots, doctors, paramedics, nurses, and support crews who work tirelessly to provide outstanding emergency care. All of which has to be funded via donations.

But Air Ambulance Week is about more than the aircraft and the crews. It is about recognising the people who make every mission possible.

It is the volunteer giving up their weekend to support a fundraising event.

It is the business choosing to support a local charity partner.

It is the individual making a monthly donation.

It is the family sharing a social media post to raise awareness.

It is the community rallying together to ensure help is there when someone needs it most.

In short, every mission starts with you. 

As professionals and business leaders, we often talk about social impact and giving back. Air Ambulance Week presents an opportunity to make a tangible difference.
