National Read a Book Day – 6th September 2025
National Read a Book Day always falls on September 6th, and in 2025 it’s a Saturday, which offers the perfect chance to unwind with one of your favourite reads or a new book.
Where National Read a Book Day came from is somewhat of a mystery as there is no renowned origin or a definitive history. Despite the absence of a established history, the day has become a beloved tradition for book lovers and reading advocates.
Whether your book of choice is the traditional hard back or paper back or you’re a lover of the kindle, National Read a Book Day offers an annual opportunity to immerse ourselves in a good story and allow our imagination to run free. For those of us in the legal profession, we get to change our usual reading material.
Why is reading worth celebrating? Reading isn’t just entertaining, it can be transformative. Reading is known to calm the mind and reduce stress. Many people find that reading in bed will often relax them to the point they fall asleep after only a page or two.
Reading is reported to have cognitive benefits such as memory enhancement and improved concentration. Reading can offer us unadulterated escapism and enrichment by allowing our imaginations to transport us to new worlds. Reading will often offer us with fresh perspective and improved knowledge regarding certain topics.
While reading is essentially a solo pursuit, with some of us only having the time to immerse ourselves in our annual holiday read, book clubs offer us the opportunity for debate and social interaction with other book worms.
Here are some of the ways you may want to celebrate National Read a Book Day:
