Some reflections on qualifying as a solicitor

What made you want to qualify as a family lawyer?

I wanted to be able to help people as they go through what are often very traumatic, emotional and difficult times. Being a family lawyer is very special because you need to be much more than just a legal reference for the client, you also need to be empathetic, give advice appropriately for the given circumstances and must not be afraid to tackle very serious and traumatic issues. By the very nature of family law we are often entrusted with sensitive and personal details and it is a great responsibility to ensure we do the very best for our clients.

What do you enjoy most about working in Birmingham?

Birmingham is a fantastic city and the Courts are great. My office is a 30 second walk from the Courts which is very handy but more importantly we have a great community in the city centre and the city attracts bigger and better amenities every year.

What has been your career highlight to date?

Taking my first instructions as a Newly Qualified Solicitor in Birmingham was a fantastic moment, it was the culmination of 2 years of training and exactly the sort of case which motivates me to pursue this career and put in the extra hours. Additionally, taking the phone call where I was offered my Training Contract back in 2017 will stay with me for a long time. I was very fortunate to be offered a position straight after completing the LPC at the University of Law and after 3 years in a different job role at a Barrister’s Chambers in Birmingham and 2 more years of completing my LLM in Law I was genuinely proud, relieved and elated to have been given such a great opportunity to commence my legal career.
